1917 to my mind is one of the most highly overrated movies I have seen in a long time and unlike most movies I choose to watch in the cinema I have no desire to rewatch it.

I was talking with a friend just today about 1917. During the whole movie I couldn't help to remember Gallipoli and to compare the execution of both films. Some of my favorite scenes were actually at the beginning of the movie with the uncle character...definitely teared up a lot at their parting and the Jungle Book scene, which was such a devastating foreshadow of what was to come.

I just can't get behind a movie that thinks that being a "support the troops" movie is a free pass to make a manipulative, contrived, self-important movie with lots of "guy movie" cliches. The Allied invasion of and campaign in Gallipoli, Turkey, during World War 1.
